Make the Computation Vanish
Put vanish in front of a command. It runs on a managed Linux machine against your working tree, uncommitted changes included, and its output streams back to your terminal.
Your first run asks you to sign in with GitHub, which takes about thirty seconds. Vanish reads your GitHub profile, not your repositories, and your account starts with free credit to try it. No card.
The first run in a repository uploads and hashes your tree, so on a large one it takes a while — about a minute and a half on a 27 GB tree. After that Vanish adds roughly a second to a command in a normal repository. Files a Run writes are staged, not written into your tree, until you apply them or pass --apply.

Start where you are.
Your working tree goes with the command, uncommitted changes included. There is nothing to commit, push or sync first.
Give the work room.
A managed Linux machine, 8 vCPU and 16 GiB by default, runs the command. Output and the exit code come back to your terminal.
Bring back what matters.
Files the command writes are staged until you apply them, and --apply never overwrites a file you changed while the Run was going.
Is it faster?
Not for one command: each Run adds startup and transfer time. For several at once, yes: four cold ripgrep builds finished in 14 seconds instead of 24. Either way, a cold ripgrep build used 358 times less of your laptop's CPU.
DetailsWhat does it cost?
Free starter credits to begin, and no card. Then $0.6624 an hour for the default machine, billed by the second with a one-minute minimum. A VM you run yourself is cheaper.
How they compareWhere does my code go?
To Vanish storage on AWS, encrypted in transit and at rest. Credentials, private keys and .env files are never stored. vanish materialize gets every byte back, any day, logged in or not.
